3 min read

The green environment is crucial for the next generation. Businesses today are concerned with the product designs that are eco-friendly. Likewise, eco-friendly food packaging is also critical for environmental protection. That’s because the packaging materials are the main environmental influencers. Food packaging options such as plastic are non-recyclable and take around a thousand years to decompose. Still, it is one of the most commonly used packaging options. This is having a hazardous effect on our environment and  is slowly turning our lands and oceans into a dumping ground.

In order to deal with this issue, many organizations have taken the initiative. They are opting for environment-friendly alternatives. This not only saves our environment but also helps to positively brand your business in front of customers. Since most of the customers today are environmentally conscious. We have listed some of the best plastic alternatives for packaging companies that are yet to switch to eco-friendly options for food and beverages:

Eco-Friendly Plastic:

Bio-plastic is produced to overtake plastic material in the market. Prepared from the biological material, it decomposes quickly when exposed to sunlight. It can be used for manufacturing mailing envelopes and other bags that are used for carrying small items. This makes it a strong eco-friendly alternative to the traditional plastic. Commonly used bioplastic materials in the food and beverage industry includes starch and PLA.

Corn-starch Packaging:

Corn-starch is also an economical packaging option in addition to being environment-friendly. It is manufactured using polylactic acid. Cornstarch is made from corn which is easy to produce and is therefore quite cheap. It keeps food fresh and doesn’t absorb food fats and oils.

Mushroom Packaging:

Mushrooms are another wonderful biodegradable food packaging option. The agricultural waste is mixed with mycelium and mushroom roots to produce it. It doesn’t make use of petroleum and other expensive products and has a fast decomposition rate.

Paper Water Bottles:

Millions of plastic bottles are purchased worldwide. This results in a huge amount of waste in the ocean. Paper water bottles are an excellent alternative to plastic bottles. These bottles are made from recycled newspaper and cardboard material with a plastic recycled lining inside. This lining helps to hold water and other liquids without any leakage.

Leaf Plates:

Leaf plates are another great eco-friendly option for food packaging companies. This material is free from toxins and can be used for packing the takeaway food. Leaf plates made of palm are natural, versatile and durable as far as storing food is concerned.

Sugarcane Residue:

Sugarcane residue is another great green food packaging option. Also referred to as bagasse, it takes a month or 2 to decompose. It can easily hold hot food and beverages up to 19 degrees. In addition to being eco-friendly, it is also safe for microwave use.
